Reflections on change and challenges for higher education

Abstract

Recent decades have witnessed rapid change occurring in society around us, especially with regard to globalization, market forces which go hand in hand with globalization, technology which has facilitated and expedited globalization and the creation of a knowledge economy and a skills demand. This article examines in detail each of the above facets of change and the challenges such change poses for higher education in general and as a consequence, the challenges faced by Sri Lankan universities in particular.
